چکیده

The susceptibility to the toxic arrhythmogenic effects of digitalis was studied in to normal dogs (group 1) and in 15 dogs with healed myocardial infarction (group 2) 26 ± 5 days after coronary artery ligation. The dose of ouabain required to cause stable digitalis-toxic ventricular tachycardia was 25% less in the group 2 dogs than in the group 1 control dogs (70 ± 21 versus 93 ± 16 J.tg/kg, probability [p] < 0.01). The average cycle length of the digitalis-toxic ventricular tachycardia was significantly shorter in group 2 than in group 1 (337 ± 47 versus 400 ± 59 ms, p < 0.01). During stable digitalistoxic ventricular tachycardia, the heart was mapped from 14 to 28 (average 18) preselected endocardial sites and from 15 to 30 (average 21) preselected epicardial ventricular sites. In 12 of the 15 dogs from group 2, the site of origin of the digitalis-toxic ventricular tachycardia

Myocardial Infarction Following Coronary Ligation in Dogs

In the subacute phase of myocardial infarction following coronary ligation in dogs, a relationship was noted between the extent of infarction and the degree of elevation of left ventricular end-diastolic pressure. Left ventricular filling pressure was consistently increased when 25% or more of the left ventricle was infarcted. Isoproterenol infusion resulted in enhanced left ventricular functio...

Differing sensitivities of Purkinje fibers and myocardium to inhibition of monovalent cation transport by digitalis.

The extent of inhibition of monovalent cation active transport in Purkinje fibers and myocardium in response to toxic and inotropic doses of digitalis were studied in the dog to elucidate the factors underlying the different relative sensitivities of these tissues to the toxic arrhythmogenic effects of digitalis. Monovalent cation transport inhibition was assessed by measuring uptake of the K(+...

Antiarrhythmic and electrophysiologic actions of clofilium in experimental canine models.

Clofilium was studied in three experimental models. In non-ischemic and chronically infarcted canine hearts, clofilium (0.5-2 mg/kg) produced a dose-dependent increase in electrical ventricular fibrillation threshold (VFT), but prolonged the effective refractory period (ERP) of normal myocardium in only the non-ischemic heart. When chronically infarcted hearts were subjected to programmed elect...

Cardiac sympathetic innervation via middle cervical and stellate ganglia and antiarrhythmic mechanism of bilateral stellectomy.

Cardiac sympathetic denervation (CSD) is reported to reduce the burden of ventricular tachyarrhythmias [ventricular tachycardia (VT)/ventricular fibrillation (VF)] in cardiomyopathy patients, but the mechanisms behind this benefit are unknown. In addition, the relative contribution to cardiac innervation of the middle cervical ganglion (MCG), which may contain cardiac neurons and is not removed...
